Week 25- Act on your plan
Week 25 - Act on your plan
Description
I now have copies of all children of the children's school photo and internet permission slips so I am able to take images of them and record data. I did not have a working screen to display the dojo points to the children in the first two weeks so I had to leave this part of my action until my TV arrived this week (week 3 Term 1) as they were not able to effectively engage with the points and skills when they could not see them. I am now able to more directly target my feedback to collaboration. The children have been interacting with the grid and arrows. I printed off some pirate treasure prompts that they could use with the arrows to encourage new thinking and more engagement. I have done one focused observation.
- How do you feel about the actions you have taken?
I am disappointed that I was unable to enact class dojo sooner but now that it is in action I am very happy with the effect it is having on supporting skill development. I did expect to have had more time to invest in enacting my action plan but the needs of my new class have meant I have had to invest a lot of my time in behavior management.
- What works as expectation and what doesn’t? And why?
I think in beginning a new school where I was unsure of the resources available and did not have relationships formed (which are integral to success )with my learners or staff it was hard to have accurate expectations. In this way it was hard to plan for my action and enact it as I had imagined. However, even so children have willingly engaged in the provocation grid. I think this is because the resources provided to them were open enough that they could create and play with others without having to think about what was right and what was wrong. Class dojo has also been engaging as I expected it to be. The reason I think they are engaged is because I am using it often and in a specific way. I have used dojo in the past to reinforce skills also with this age group and had success so I did it expect to have the same result again.
- What should be done differently? How would you justify this?
I need to spend more time on modelling and giving feedback on computational thinking and collaborative skills now that my class are becoming more settled behaviorally. I can justify this because there is a need in my class to develop collaborative skills and because as a school we are working on digital fluency, therefore computational thinking.
